Cookiebot alternative

The Cookiebot alternative that doesn't price you by page count

Cookiebot by Usercentrics is a well-known, Google-certified consent platform. Its paid plans are sized by how many subpages its scanner finds on your domain. If you run a small or growing site and just need a compliant banner with Consent Mode v2, PrivacyPill covers the essentials in one tiny script — with flat pricing, or a one-time €49.

Why people compare Cookiebot alternatives

Most switchers we talk to run a small shop or company site with a handful of trackers — Google Analytics 4, a Meta Pixel, maybe Hotjar. Their needs are simple: a compliant banner, Consent Mode v2 for Google Ads, and proof of consent. What surprises them is that Cookiebot's subscription is set by the number of subpages its scanner discovers, so a blog or a growing product catalogue can move you up a tier.

Others care about performance. A consent script loads on every page view, before almost everything else. PrivacyPill's runtime is around 5 kB gzipped and arrives with its configuration in one request.

What you get with PrivacyPill

PrivacyPill focuses on what the EDPB cookie banner taskforce and national regulators actually check:

  • No optional cookies before consent — Google tags start in denied mode, other scripts wait via data-pp-category.
  • A 'Reject non-essential' button on the first layer, as easy to click as 'Accept all'.
  • Granular categories (analytics, marketing, functional) with a clear preferences panel.
  • A floating settings button so visitors can withdraw consent as easily as they gave it.
  • A pseudonymous proof-of-consent log you can export as CSV.

When Cookiebot is still the better choice

Be honest about your requirements. If you sell programmatic advertising through Google AdSense, Ad Manager or AdMob to visitors in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, Google requires a Google-certified CMP that implements the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework. PrivacyPill doesn't implement TCF, so Cookiebot (or another certified CMP) is the right tool there.

The same goes for sites that need dozens of banner languages out of the box, or organisations whose legal team mandates a specific vendor.

Switching from Cookiebot

Run our scanner on your homepage to list the trackers it loads and design your banner in the customizer. Then remove the Cookiebot script (and any data-cookieconsent attributes) and add the one-line PrivacyPill embed as the first script in <head>. Mark scripts you want blocked with data-pp-category instead.

Both tools speak Google Consent Mode v2, but don't assume everything carries over: open Google Tag Assistant and check that the consent defaults are set before your tags fire and that an update arrives after you click a button. Removing the Cookiebot script doesn't cancel a Cookiebot subscription — cancel it in your Cookiebot account.
